Harrison miraculously found his way to the officer’s cabin. The room was filled with water, but near the ceiling (which was now the floor of the upside-down ship), a small air pocket had formed—only about 4 feet high.
It was his only chance. He constructed a small platform out of floating mattresses to keep his upper body above the freezing water.

He was in total darkness. Dressed only in his underwear. Around him, debris floated… and as he later realized, the bodies of his friends. He could hear fish beginning to feed on the corpses in the nearby rooms. It was a sound he would never forget.
Oxygen was running out. Every breath brought him closer to death by carbon dioxide poisoning.
