According to the Columbus Police Department, the child was alert but extremely tired, cold, and hungry. She identified herself as “Mia,” and said she had been “walking with Buddy,” her dog, for “a long time.” Police confirmed she had no visible injuries.

Hart radioed for backup and immediately wrapped the girl in his coat. “She kept asking if her dog could come, if he was allowed,” Hart said. “I told her of course. That seemed to calm her.”
