Liam hung from his rope, squinting against the sun. Nature doesn’t make straight lines. He unclipped his camera and zoomed in.
The lens revealed a perfect rectangle carved into the rock face. It was about six feet high and three feet wide, cleverly camouflaged with dirt and arranged stones. It looked like a door.
A door in the middle of a sheer cliff face? It made no sense. There were no roads, no trails, nothing for miles.
Driven by a sudden, intense curiosity, Liam decided to risk the traverse. He carefully rigged a new anchor and began swinging sideways across the wall. The ledge leading to the “door” was barely the width of his boot.
When he finally reached it, his heart was pounding. Up close, the camouflage failed. It was definitely an entrance, sealed shut with old, rotting timber beams and rusted rebar.
